Bio Carrie Grainger is a contemporary artist, film maker and researcher, she was born in October 1991 in Ascot, Berkshire and is currently based near Reading, Uk. Education MA in Fine Art (2017) Bath Spa University BA Hons in Fine Art (2014) University of the Creative Arts, Farnham. Artist Statement Grainger’s practice explores different cultural superstitions, folklores, symbolisms and spectral traces through multiple forms such as mask making, sculpture, drawing and film. Grainger draws from historic events, myths and narratives largely connected to landscape. She commonly engages with themes surrounding mysticism, concealed societies and animism. Grainger engages with the concept that landscapes and dwellings are haunted by the remains of their past such as hearsays, memories and experience and explores how this notion can be engaged with and illuminated through arts practice. Grainger is interested in the concept of place as a vessel that can be unearthed through storytelling and visual symbolism.
